Staying in touch is a two-way operation, and I would love to hear from you. How are you faring in this crazy time of life with hurricanes and wars and viruses surrounding us? My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering losses or pain.
Sometimes I think the only reliable antidote is losing myself in a good book, especially if the protagonist has problems and challenges greater than mine. When she overcomes them, I’m filled with hope.
A few books that have helped me in that way are:
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Kate’s War by Linda Stewart Henley (a classmate of mine at Tulane)
What are some books that helped you get through rough times?
You are so caring, Saralyn. Thanks for being you! In tough times, I seek solace in the past and grab a classic from my bookshelf, e.g., Wuthering Heights, The Moonstone, Sherlock Holmes.
When I'm going through tough times, I gravitate toward self-help books and other nonfiction. Or I reach out to my friends. Knowing people like you are there for me, lifts my spirits. Thanks Saralyn!
